The Most Reverend John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, Apostolic Vicar of the Donkorkrom Vicariate has expressed worry over the inadequate number of priests in his jurisdiction.
Bishop Asiedu said given the vast nature of mission in the Apostolic Vicariate of Donkorkrom, the few numbers they can boast of now is not enough.
He said this in his homily at the ordination ceremony held on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Donkorkrom.

The Prelate said “indeed the Lord’s harvest in the Apostolic Vicariate of Donkorkrom is so rich and vast that 18 Priest labourers are inadequate”.
He indicated that the situation is not just prevalent in his jurisdiction but cuts across continents noting that “it is very true in the universal church and there will be no period in the church when we will have more than necessary priests to work as labourers in the lord’s harvest”.

The Prelate said the Faithful within the Donkorkrom Vicariate have always prayed for vocation into the priesthood.
“One of the intentions that features prominently and constantly in the prayer of the Faithful in almost all of our Catholic worship especially on Sundays and solemnities is the praying for the vocation into the priesthood”, he stressed.

The Apostolic Vicar seized the opportunity to express gratitude on behalf of the Faithful and clergy within the vicariate to God for what he describes as an answered prayer.
He said the new priest ordained for the vicariate was what the Faithful had been praying for as an add up to the existing number of priests.
“Our gratitude today is a recognition to God for a favourable answer to such prayer for vocation into the priesthood”.

This year’s priestly ordination in the Apostolic Vicariate of Donkorkrom was manned by the Most Reverend John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD as he ordained Rev. Anthony Teye Binyemi as the only candidate.
The occasion was graced by Priests, Religious and lay Faithful from both within and outside of the Donkorkrom Vicariate’s jurisdiction.
