KSJI donates PPE to GCBC to aid fight against COVID-19

The Knights of St. John International (KSJI) and their Ladies Auxiliary on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 made a donation to the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC), as part of its efforts towards the fight COVID-19.

The gesture was in the form of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), worth Forty Thousand Ghana Cedis ( GHC40,000) and comes barely two months after they had presented a Cheque of Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 30,000) to support the GCBC COVID-19 Fund.

The donation was made at the National Catholic Secretariat (NCS) by the Supreme Subordinate President, Major-General Peter Sangber-Dery, and was supported by the Supreme Subordinate President of the Ladies, Noble Sister Eugenia Enyimayew.

Making the presentation on behalf of the Noble Order, Maj-Gen. Sangber-Derby said it was their ” widow’s mite of voluntary contributions from their members to support the Bishops respond appropriately to the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra received the items on behalf of the President and Members of the GCBC.

Archbishop Kwofie in his response thanked the Knights and Ladies of the St. John International for their thoughtfulness and concern for the needy, especially the sick and frontline health workers in Catholic Health Facilities across the country.

He added that, their gesture is a clear indication of their solidarity with their Bishops and prayed for God’s continuous protection and blessings upon the members and for success in their endeavours.

Also present at the ceremony were other Officers of the KSJI and their Ladies Auxiliary as well as some senior staff of the NCS.
The items presented include disposable surgical masks, face shields, disposable head covers, disposable gowns, gallons of sanitizers, and liquid soap among others.
