Pope Francis Appoints Nigerian Female Professor to a Vatican Academy

A Nigerian female Professor, Prof. Kokunre A. Agbontaen-Eghafona has been appointed by Pope Francis as a member to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences last Friday, 10 July 2020.

Professor Agbontaen-Eghafona was a former student of UNIBEN and University of Ibadan, and was a lecturer at UNIBEN.

Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences (PASS) was established by St. Pope John Paul II on 1 January 1984 with the aim of promoting progress in social science researches as a help to the Church in the elaboration of her social teachings.

The Pontifical Academicians “are no less than 20 and no more than 40 men and women, suitably representing the various disciplines of the social sciences and geographical regions.

They are appointed by the Holy Father after nomination by the Academic body on the basis of their competences and outstanding contributions in the social sciences, and of their moral integrity”.
