The Catholic Church in Ghana, in an earlier statement revealed the resumption of in-person mass following the easing of the restrictions on religious activities earlier in June.
The statement although left the resumption of mass at the discretion of individual Bishops and Archbishops in their various jurisdictions, mass was expected to commence on Sunday, June 7, 2020.
Sunday, June 14th saw a good number of Catholic Churches in Ghana celebrating mass with the hope of reuniting the faithful, however with a spelt out number (100) of congregants at a go, the encounter was quite “poor” as many faithful failed to show up.
SITUATION AT SOME CATHOLIC CHURCHES
St Bakhita in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra
Mass at St. Bakhita started on Saturday evening with about 28 parishioners @6pm.
Two Masses were held on Sunday, the first at 7am with about 35 parishioners, with a live stream on social media as well.
The second Mass started @ 9am after disinfection of the chapel with about 38 parishioners.
Mary Mother of Good Counsel Parish-Accra Archdiocese
The Parish had earlier scheduled for five masses to be celebrated on June 14, however, the parish could only celebrate three out of the five over low attendance with all spelt out protocols in place.
Situational Update at the Holy Spirit Parish, Nkwabeng-Sunyani in the Sunyani Dioces amidst all necessary protocols in place indicates attendance was quite low.
Others like St. Charles Lwanga, Queen of Peace and Corpus Christi Parishes in the Accra Archdiocese are yet to resume mass.
In-person mass in the Sekondi-Takoradi, Konongo-Mampong, among other dioceses and Archdioceses have commenced.
