A Catholic priest named Rev. Fr. Vitus Borogo has been killed on his farm in the Kaduna Archdiocese of Nigeria on Saturday by unidentified gunmen.

The late Fr. Vitus, who was 50 years old, was the Kaduna Chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Catholic Diocesan Priests Association (NCDPA) and the Chaplain of the Catholic Community at the Kaduna State Polytechnic.

The horrific killing comes just a few days after many people were kidnapped and three people were killed in the same Archdiocese.

Rev. Fr. Christian Okewu Emmanuel, chancellor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kaduna, confirmed the development in a statement, saying “It is with a heavy heart, but with total submission to the will of God that we announce the death of Rev. Fr. Vitus Borogo, which sad event took place today, at Prison Farm, Kujama, along Kaduna-Kachia road, after a raid on the farm by Terrorists.”

The Archdiocese’s leadership has expressed its sympathies to the late priest’s family as well as to those in his immediate and place of employment.
The Archdiocese has additionally announced that plans would be made to prepare for the priest’s funeral.

“Meanwhile, we commit his soul to the maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and call on all men and women of goodwill to continue to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul and for the consolation of his bereaved family, especially his mother.”
