The Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has admonished the general public to be vigilant during the Population and Housing Census which has begun nationwide to avoid falling prey to crooked individuals who may be parading themselves as census officials.
A statement signed by the President of the Bishops’ Conference and Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Rev. Philip Naameh urged the faithful particularly to look out for their personal safety even though relevant stakeholders had put measures in place to trim down unforeseen instances during the exercise.
“We urge all our Catholic Faithful and the general public to take charge of their personal
security by being vigilant to ensure their safety and that of their household”.
The Bishops however said they were hopeful that the exercise would proceed smoothly even in the thick of genuine security concerns raised with the assurance from the relevant stakeholders that the necessary measures had been put in place
“With the assurance given by the various responsible Agencies, especially the Statistical Services of Ghana, we trust that the necessary safeguarding measures have been put in place to ensure that nobody falls victim to
activities of some unscrupulous individuals who might be parading themselves as Census Officers”.
The Bishops further urged the Catholic Faithful to avail themselves of the opportunity to be counted during the exercise explaining that it is a major step in ensuring unified development.

ONGOING POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS
We bring you greetings of peace from the National Catholic Secretariat.
The 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) has started with the Census Night on Sunday,
June 27, 2021. We, your Bishops, wish to encourage all our Catholic Faithful to avail themselves
of the opportunity to be counted.
As we stated in our joint communique with the Christian Council of Ghana in May this year, the
Population and Housing Census is significant for the growth and development of every nation. The
data captured is important to plan the national, regional, district and local development of our
nation. It will also enable us to know our Catholic population in Ghana.
We are aware of the genuine security concerns of some Ghanaians but with the assurance given
by the various responsible Agencies, especially the Statistical Services of Ghana, we trust that the
necessary safeguarding measures have been put in place to ensure that nobody falls victim to
activities of some unscrupulous individuals who might be parading themselves as Census Officers.
We, however, urge all our Catholic Faithful and the general public to take charge of their personal
security by being vigilant to ensure their safety and that of their household.
We commend the Government of Ghana and the donor partners for ensuring that this important
exercise takes place despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Finally, we wish to appeal to all Ghanaians to see the 2021 PHC as a national exercise for the
common good, and its success requires the cooperation of all, despite our differences.
