The Very Reverend Hilary Pogbeyir has been named the new Vicar General of the Tamale Catholic Archdiocese.

His appointment will be in place beginning August 20, 2022.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Tamale, Most Rev. Philip Naameh, appointed him in the wake of the appointment of the former Vicar General Most Rev. Matthew Yitiereh who is now the Bishop of Yendi.

In a letter addressed to the Catholic faithful and the clergy of the Archdiocese, Archbishop Naameh sought their support for the new Vicar General as he assumes his responsibilities.

Part of the statement reads ; “I am pleased to inform you that following the appointment of my former Vicar General, Very Rev. Matthew Yitiereh as the bishop of Yendi, I have appointed Very Rev. Hilary Pogbeyir as my new Vicar General.”

He continued “I wish to appeal to all of you to give him your assistance as you have always done to the Vicars.”

Brief Profile

Fr. Pogbeyir was ordained a priest On August 12, 2000.

He was the secretary to the late Archbishop Emeritus of Tamale from 2001 to 2005.

He held the position of Archbishop’s Secretary from 2008 to 2013.

He was also the Tamale Archdiocese’s Chancellor from 2008 until 2022.

From 2008 to 2013 he served in the Tamale Interdiocesan Tribunal as the Defender of the Bond.

In the same period he also served as the priest incharge of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.

From 2014 to 2017 he served as Executive Secretary of the Cardinal Dery Foundation

From 2013 to 2022 he served as Parish Priest of Holy Cross Parish, Tamale.

From 2017 to the present he became the Notary to the Cardinal Dery Beatification Process.

This appointment will take effect on the 20 of August 2022.
