Bishop Lippert Dedicates St. Alphonsa Catholic Church in a colourful “Huli Pageantry”

In what would be described as a colourful cultural “out of the roof experience”, Most Rev Donald Lippert, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mendi, Papua New Guinea blessed the new St Alphonsa Church in Perapu.

The newly dedicated church is an outstation of St Paul Parish, Komo in the Catholic Diocese of Mendi.

The Prelate was received by Catholics members in the community in a refined “Huli Pageantry” which saw the display of the various cultural element in the Perapu setting.

A post sited by ADM NEWS by the Prelate describes the gesture as a warm and breathtaking experience for himself and participants. “The Huli pageantry is breathtaking. It is matched by their deep spiritual sense, Komo Hela Province”, he said.

Bishop Lippert also recounts the terrible landslide that occurred in Perapu years earlier noting that the encounter was a terrible site for many who fell prey to it.
