Pope Francis on Tuesday June 9, 2020, appointed Monsignor David L. Toups as the sixth Bishop for the Beaumont Diocese.
The Clearwater Bishop-elect in an earlier statement disclosed the appointment to the Catholic community and expressed his gratitude for the many years he’s spent with his now former immediate environment.
“It was announced today at noon in Rome (6:00 am EDT), that Pope Francis has appointed me to be the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Beaumont in Texas. You might imagine the flood of emotions that I have been feeling since receiving the call from Archbishop Christophe Pierre, the Apostolic Nuncio, last Monday evening”, he said.
Until his appointment, MSGR Toups was the Rector and President of the St Vince de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton.
Very Rev. Monsignor David L. Toups, S.T.D., is the Rector and President of St. Vincent Boynton Beach, Florida.
He assumed office in 2012, and was subsequently named as a monsignor, after serving as pastor at Christ the King parish in Tampa.
Ordained in 1997 for the Diocese of St. Petersburg, Monsignor Toups holds a B.A. in philosophy from St. John Vianney College Seminary, Miami; an S.T.L. in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome; and an S.T.D. in theology from the Angelicum, Rome.
He previously served as parochial vicar, seminary professor and dean of students at St. Vincent de Paul and served as the Associate Director of the Secretariat of Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
He is the author of numerous articles as well as the 2008 book “Reclaiming Our Priestly Character,” published by the Institute for Priestly Formation.
