The Archdiocese of Rabaul reports the death of Rev.Fr John Nick who passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 after long battle with illness.
The Archdiocese served notice to the faithful and the Catholic community on the passing of the priest and called for prayers for the repose of his soul.
“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that the Archdiocese of Rabaul would like to Official inform all faithfuls of the death of Rev.Fr John Nick”, the notice stated.
It also added that “Late Fr John Nick silently and peacefully passed on; due to a long illness on the 2nd of Septemeber 2020 at 9:00pm in St Mary’s Hospital”.
Rev. Fr John Nick hails from Sampun Village which is also a Catholic Community in St Isidor Guma Parish.
He was born on the 26th of December 1971. Late Fr. John Nick completed his Primary School studies in Sampun Primary School and Secondary Studies at the end of 1996 at St Mary’s High School.
He entered the Sacred Heart Rapolo Seminary in 2001 and was Ordained Priest on the 7th of April 2010.
During his journey in life he was assigned to Gunanba Parish, Kabaira Parish, Vunapalading Parish, Merai Parish and from 2018 up to the day he was called by the Lord, as Chaplin of St Mary’s Hospital, Vunapope.

Sunday 6th September -6pm Arrival of Casket from Nonga Hospital
The Officers of St Mary’s Hospital will hand over Fr John Nick to the Archdiocese of Rabaul
Vigil and the body will stay in the Cathedral overnight
9:00am 7th of September- Funeral Mass
After the Funeral Mass late Fr John Nick’s Body will be laid to rest at Vunapope Cemetary.
