Celebrate victory of your political party in your home not in Church- Bishop Osei-Bonsu cautions

Most Rev. Joseph Osei-Bonsu, Chief Shepherd of the Konongo-Mampong Diocese has cautioned Catholics to refrain from extending what he describes as election victory celebrations to Church to avoid raising issues of the prevalence of partisan politics in the church.

In a statement issued by the Bishop’s outfit, he noted that, extending acts geared towards partisan lines should not be encouraged as it contradicts the Catholic faith.

He said it was only natural for individuals to celebrate victory on partisan lines but it was also uncalled for to do so in a holy institution that does not tread on partisan lines.

Bishop Osei-Bonsu said “such celebrations cannot and should not take place in our churches”.
“This is not part of our Catholic tradition, the Church is officially non partisan”, he emphasized.

The Prelate also reiterated the need for a peaceful resolution in the thick of the rising violence in the aftermath of the elections.

He condemned attacks on individuals and other public figures noting that such acts of violence were unbecoming of Christians and should be discouraged.
