The most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD the Apostolic vicar of the Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate called on the faithful to be committed to the various Christian duties. He said this at the 2021 Chrism Mass celebration in Donkorkrom.
The Chrism mass is an annual ritual of the blessing of the oils used during the year. All of the the priests and a cross section of the Catholic faithful of the Vicariate gather together for this Mass, and during it the bishop consecrated the sacred oils used in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders. Each parish receives its annual supply of these oils at the Chrism Mass.
During his homily, Most Rev John Alphonse Asiedu said God is faithful hence those who worship him must be faithful. Jesus kept the promises of God. Hence Christians are called to imitate the fidelity of Christ and keep faithfully the promises they made to the Lord.”
When commentating on the specific oils, Bishop Asiedu explained the significance of each and how they accompany us on our journey of faith. “The chrism is a reminder of the closeness of Jesus to his people. Through the sacraments administer in the church, Jesus who is present in the sacrament touches our lives. The Chrism is also a celebration of the unity between the bishop and the priests working in the Vicariate. Through the hands of the bishop and priests, the faithful experience the healing touch of Jesus. People receive the healing remedy of body, mind and soul. The mass is also a reminder that Christian’s are God’s people.”
He took the opportunity to thank the priests who are working in the Vicariate for their committed service. He pledged his unflinching support for them in their needs. He also thank the faithful present for the support they give to their priests. He also used the occasion to announce and invite all ensurdary to the diaconate ordination of Mr. Saviour Dakey on the 13th of April 2021 at Maame Krobo.
All the priests numbering 17, Religious sisters, and good number of Catholics attended the event.
