The SSpS Ghana-Province, has in a colourful ceremony had four of her sisters who have successfully gone through their spiritual and formative journey professed their perpetual vows at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Accra.
The ceremony held on the feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was concelebrated by the Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, Bishop of the Keta-Akatsi Diocese with hosts of Priests, Religious, lay faithful and well-wishers gracing the occasion.
In his homily, the concelebrating Bishop charged the sisters to live a life pleasing to their maker and stay truthful to their consecrated cause.
Sr Josephine Essuman SSpS, on behalf of the celebrating sisters, SRs Cynthia Addi-Chanagea, Dorothy Sedinam Kporyi and Charlotte Dery thanked all who journeyed with them through their formative and spiritual process and affirmed their commitment towards serving mother church and living truthful to their consecrated cause.

PROFILE- Sr. Charlotte Dery
Sr. Charlotte Dery spss was born on 9th December, 1979 at Nandom to the late Mr. Charles Lamusah and Lucia Dery. She had her elementary education at Kogle Primary School and her Secondary education at Lawra Secondary School in Upper West Region.
After her secondary education in 2001, she attended Wa Workers College and graduated in 2004 with RSA stage II in Accounting. She worked at the Catholic Guest House in Wa (Tiegber) in the Upper West Region for four years. In 2008, Sr. Charlotte gained admission to Sunyani Polytechnic, now Sunyani Technical University where she graduated with Diploma in Business Studies.
Desiring to become a religious she joined the SSpS pre-postulancy in Accra in October 2010 and on 8th December, she started the Postulancy in Koforidua. This marked the beginning of her basic formation as a religious – missionary.
After two years of postulancy she continued her formation in the Novitiate at Sunyani for two years. Sr. Charlotte professed her First Vows in August 2014.
She was missioned to serve the people of Kwahu-Tafo as an accountant at St. Joseph’s Clinic for one year. In 2015, she gained admission to the Presbyterian University College in Kwahu- Abetifi. In March 2018, she was transferred to Holy Family Convent/Hospital at Nkawkaw to work in the Accounts office. She completed Presbyterian University College in May 2019 and graduated with her first Degree in Finance and Accounting.
Upon completing school, she was accepted to prepare for Perpetual Vows and then moved to Koforidua for the preparation. With constant meditation, reflection and guidance of the Holy Spirit, she felt deeply in love with the Spirit and had the conviction to say her final ‘Yes’ to the Lord.
Sr. Charlotte is missioned to serve the Church in Zambia.
PROFILE OF SR. CYNTHIA ADDI-CHANAGEA, SSpS
Sr. Cynthia Addi-Chanagea was born on 24th November, 1985 in Navrongo to Mr. and Mrs. Addi – Chanagea. Her family is made up of seven siblings of which she is the sixth born. She had her basic education at St. George Primary School and Sacred Heart JHS, all in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region and then proceeded to Oxford Vocational and Technical School in Tema- Accra.
After her vocational training at Oxford, she gained admission to Accra Polytechnic, now Accra Technical University, where she studied DBS in Secretaryship. After the Polytechnic education, she worked with the Catholic Communication Office in Accra briefly and moved to the Ghana Cocoa Board, Tepa for a year.
In 2010, she was admitted to start her religious vocation formation with the Missionary Sisters, Servants of the Holy Spirit beginning with “Come and See” programme on 1st October, 2010 at St. Mary’s Convent, Accra. After two months, she was accepted on 8th December, 2010 to start her Pre-Novitiate (Postulancy) for two years at Mother Maria House in Koforidua.
In August, 2012 she started her two-year Novitiate at the Holy Spirit Formation House, Sunyani. After the canonical year in the Novitiate, she was sent for a community experience in Kwahu-Tafo for six months. She went back to the Novitiate for the last part of her formation.
On 22nd August, 2014, she made her First Profession of Religious Vows.
She was posted to Holy Family Hospital, Nkawkaw for about a year and half after which she was transferred to St. Mary’s Convent, Accra. In 2016, she gained admission to the African University College of Communications (AUCC). While in AUCC, she had her practicals at the Catholic Communication Office, Accra. She graduated from AUCC in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies and majored in Journalism. Sr Cynthia is missioned to serve the church in Ghana.
PROFILE OF SR. JOSEPHINE ESSUMAN, SSpS.
Born on May 2, 1990 at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region, Sr. Josephine spent her childhood years at Mallam in Accra where she had her Basic and Junior High School education. She had her Senior High School education at New Generation SHS now at Kasoa and wrote her WASSCE at Kwanyako Senior High School in the Central Region. Upon completion of SHS in 2007, Sr. Josephine spent three years teaching while she aspired with the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS). Her active service as a Mass Server and lector at St. Dominic Catholic Church – Mallam, have kindled her calling to serve the Lord in Religious life where she will grow her spiritual self and serve the Lord in a more far-reaching way.
In responding to God’s call, she began her formative journey on October 1, 2010 and was accepted into the Pre-novitiate in Koforidua on December 8, 2010. After two years of pre-novitiate, she then, had her investiture into the Novitiate on August 21, 2012 in Sunyani. After a successful completion of two years of prayer, guidance and proper discernment in the novitiate, Sr. Josephine was granted permission to profess her First Vows of Consecrated Chastity, Evangelical Poverty and Apostolic Obedience in the Mission Congregation of the Servants of the Holy Spirit on August 22, 2014. She served as a teacher at Madonna School for a short while and then gained admission to the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG) in 2015. She completed and graduated last year with a First Class Honours in Bachelor of Education, English Option.
From September, 2019 to August, 2020, Sr. Josephine has been preparing spiritually, physically and emotionally to say her Final ‘YES’ to the Lord. Sr. Josephine loves reading, writing motivational messages, singing and listening to music. She is missioned to the Province of Paraguay in South America to join in the common mission of our congregation as she shares and spends her life with all people.
Profile of Sr. Dorothy Sedinam Kporyi, SSpS
Sr. Dorothy Sedinam Kporyi was born at Avee-Tokor to Mr. Patrick Kporyi and Mrs. Lydia Kporyi (both of blessed memory). She started her basic education for a while in Avee R/C then moved to Accra to attend primary at King of Kings and New Nation International Schools at Dzorwulu and Nima respectively. She completed her Junior High School education at Jack and Jill School at Roman Ridge. Sr. Dorothy completed Senior High School at Kpando SHS and proceeded to West Africa Computer Science Institute at Kokomlemle in Accra for a two year certificate in Computer Programming.
Sr. Dorothy worked for two years after which she applied and was admitted to start her 2-year postulancy (pre-novitiate) with the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit on 13th December, 2008 at Mother Maria House in Koforidua. She was invested into the novitiate on 22nd August, 2010 and after two years was granted permission to profess her First Vows of Consecrated Chastity, Evangelical Poverty and Apostolic Obedience. Her first community was Trinity Convent in Saboba, Yendi diocese to teach ICT at St. Charles R/C JHS for a year. Later, she was transferred to Madonna Convent- Koforidua where she schooled at Koforidua Senior Technical School to do Arts, majoring in Sculpture for two years. She taught the little ones when she was missioned later to the School of the Holy Spirit – Kukuom, Goaso diocese.
The Provincial Administration saw Sr. Dorothy’s love for children and her creative gifts; she was granted the opportunity to further her education at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to read Early Childhood Education. After sharing life and mission with her sisters in three different communities for seven years and upon completion of her diploma course at UCC, she was given permission to prepare for perpetual profession of Vows as a Missionary Sister, Servant of the Holy Spirit. She prepared herself for this all important stage of her life in community, reflection, prayer, study and guidance. She is most grateful to God’s faithfulness to her over the years through her formative journey as a Holy Spirit Missionary Sister.
It is her fervent prayer that the good and gracious Lord may continue to bless and reward all who have helped her especially her nuclear and SSpS religious families.
Her hobbies are drawing, making cards, gardening and cooking.
Her favourite Bible verse is John 15: 1 -8 “ I am the vine and you are the branches. As long as you remain in me and I in you, you bear much fruit; but apart from me, you can do nothing.”
Sr Dorothy is missioned to serve the church in Ghana.
